Music video

[edit]

A music video directed by Lukas Ettlin, was released to promote the single. Manson stated in an interview with NOVA while touring Australia in early 2012 that the video would contain segments shot with "never before used technology" stating that he has a friend that "works for National Geographic".[2] The music video will feature Roxane Mesquida who also featured in Dupieux's 2010 film Rubber which Manson stated was his favourite film to come out that year. On February 19, 2012 Mesquida posted a picture of a roasted bird on a platter with the caption "Shooting Marilyn Manson new music video :)".[3] On April 4 at 12:00PM EST, the video for the radio edit of the song premiered on Marilyn Manson's VEVO YouTube channel and on the band's website.

Reception

[edit]

The song received a positive review from Loudwire who gave it a 4/5 star rating. They said of the single "We could call 'No Reflection' a "comeback" single, since it's reminiscent of some of the Antichrist Superstar's best work."[4] Loudwire also posted a "readers poll" where fans could rate the song. The song maintained strong popularity with the majority of fans voting favourably for the song and also adding dozens of positive comments. By the time Born Villain was released on April 25, only 4.65% of fans voted unfavourably for the lead single.[5] Fans also received the song very well on YouTube. In the music video's first week online, it received over 1,300.000 views and minimal dislikes. The song received thousands of positive comments from the Marilyn Manson fan base, with a general consensus that the song was better than the material of more recent albums.[6]

Lyrics

[edit]
    Crushing
    Cheating
    Changing

    Am I deaf or dead?
    Is this constricting construction,
or just streets with rusty signs,
    of something violent
    coming?

    This will hurt you
    worse than me.
    I'm weak,
    7 days i'm weak.
    Don't run from me.
    I won't bother
    counting 1, 2, 3...

I don't know which me that I love
    I've got no reflection
I don't know which me that I love
    I've got no reflection

    I can show myself
    how to make a noose.
    A gun's cliche,
    and a razor too.
    I'm not a death-trip vacation
    vacant station,
    made of scars
and filled with my old wounds.

    This will hurt you
    worse than me.
    I'm weak,
    7 days i'm weak.
    Don't run from me.
    I won't bother
    counting 1, 2, 3...

I don't know which me that I love
    I've got no reflection
I don't know which me that I love
    I've got no reflection

    You...
you don't even want to know
what I'm gonna do to you
you don't even want to know
what I'm gonna do to you

I don't know which me that I love
    I've got no reflection
I don't know which me that I love
    I've got no reflection
    no reflection
    no reflection
    I've got no reflection

Lyrics

[edit]
I'm changing changing to something else
The look on your face makes it hard to tell
As this disintegration or the beginning of
   Violent something coming?

Fill me fill me full of stones
A wolf would rather eat you then
   Drown in a well,
   What big teeth you have
   What big teeth you have

Put all your blood in me
   I'll bleed back into you
   This patch is a promise
   You can't undo

I don't know which me that you love
   no reflection
I don't know which me that you love
   no reflection

   Turning turning into someone else
I wish I could tell if I'm in hell
Is this transformation all in skin
   Covering my own wounds

Fill me fill me full of stones
A wolf would rather eat you then
   Drown in a well,
   What big teeth you have
   What big teeth you have

Put all your blood in me
   I'll bleed back into you
   This patch is a promise
   You can't undo

I don't know which me that you love
   no reflection
I don't know which me that you love
   no reflection

   No reflection
   No reflection
   I've got no reflection

I know what a wolf might do to you
You don't wanna, know what a wolf might do to you
You don't wanna, know what a wolf might do to you
You don't wanna, know what a wolf might do to you

I don't know which me that you love
   no reflection
I don't know which me that you love
   no reflection

   No reflection
   No reflection
   I've got no reflection

You don't wanna, know what a wolf might do to you
You don't wanna, know what a wolf might do to you
