Manson's commentary on the song, which was published on the interactive album website:

“	"Exit Wound". When I was painting "Necromancer" for the album cover, I was also working on the lyrics for this song. The image reminds me a lot of the character of Death in the Ingmar Bergman film, The Seventh Seal. In the bridge of this song, I returned to the idea of one. It of course appears in the album title and it occurs intentionally throughout both chapters of this body of work. It's something that listeners can look into deeper and draw their own conclusions and find similarities in their own lives. I love the guitar work and grinding rhythm of this song. It's a comfortable glove for me to wear musically.	”
